An Overview: Architecture is primarily the art and science of designing spaces for serving the multifarious activities of human beings and for meeting their specific needs in a meaningful built environment. Architecture uses the philosophic wholesomeness of Humanities, the logical rationalism of Science, the passionate imagination of Art and the inexhaustible resources of Technology. It calls for originality, creativity, conceptualization, perception, aesthetic values and a holistic judgment of people places, objects and events.
The Department of Architecture was originally established in BIT Ranchi, India and offers a 5-year degree course in Architecture to fulfill the requirements of the profession. As BIT International Centre, Ras al Khaimah was established in the year 2005, the Department of Architecture was also extended to the Centre and since then has been offering B. Arch education as per the syllabus and course curriculum of the University. The objective of the Department is to educate and train students in such a manner that they become efficient Architects to meet the challenges of the fast changing world without sacrificing the cultural heritage of India.
Application: A graduate of architecture can either start working as architect by taking up private practice or as an architect in an office. A large portion of the graduates also opt for higher studies in urban design, landscape architecture, heritage and conservation, housing design, city and urban planning, transportation planning, environment planning, product design, construction management, business management – each of them being a much coveted field on its own.
Employment Opportunities: Apart from the scope of one’s own private practice, architects are in high demand in offices having core sector profile of architecture, construction, civil engineering, infrastructure development or real estate marketing. They also have wide scope in fields like urban planning, product designing, software design, multimedia etc and even in diversified field of set designing in films.
Entry Level Eligibility: Any student opting for B. Arch course should have obtained no less than 50% marks in aggregate in the examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as a subject of examinations at the 10+2 level.
The students have to qualify in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by Council of Architecture, India.
